10:00-10:50: “‘Sorry, I Didn’t Realize…’: Techniques for Being Inclusive in the Planning and Provision of Library Services and Programs” (Kawanna Bright, East Carolina University)

Being more inclusive in how we create library services and programming can be a natural part of the process when reviewing and developing library services and programs. This session will offer suggestions for easy ways to integrate inclusivity into library services and help attendees develop an inclusive mindset when developing library services and programs.

11:10-12:00: “Introducing Scholarly Communications: A Cross-Departmental Approach for Reaching Students and Faculty” (Anna Craft, Amy Harris Houk, Samantha Harlow, UNC-Greensboro)

In the UNCG University Libraries, support for scholarly communications is a collaborative effort that involves personnel from Technical Services, Research, Outreach, and Instruction (ROI), and other departments. This presentation will discuss a professional development program that seeks to proactively meet scholarly communications needs for online and in-person graduate students and faculty at UNC Greensboro (UNCG).

12:45-1:35: “Adulting 101: How to Teach the Skills of Life” (Laura Hess, UNC-Pembroke)

In 2019-2020, the Livermore Library has hosted a series of Adulting 101 workshops to teach students important life skills that they may not have learned in school. This presentation will discuss the creation of the Adulting 101 workshop series, the collaboration process for leading the sessions, and our plans for continuing to offer workshops in the future.

Words without action do not create results. Tackling projects can sometimes be overwhelming. Learn about SMART Goals and how to use them in successfully completing projects.

3:05-3:55: “Electronic Resources for Education: A Collaborative Approach”
(Melissa Raymer and Nathan Saunders, UNC-Wilmington)

Most school libraries do not focus on collecting or providing access to electronic periodicals or primary sources through databases. The presenters will discuss the ways they’ve reached out to local teachers to raise awareness of primary sources available through Randall Library (UNCW) digital collections, NC LIVE databases, and other websites such as DigitalNC and the Library of Congress.

4:10-5:00: “Bringing User Testing to the Library: The Power of Learning from Your Users” (Marcella Fredriksson, UNC-Wilmington)

Usability testing is an important tool for developing new technology and products. Not everyone uses websites or software the same way and user testing can help demonstrate pain points your users may be experiencing. This session will show some of the best practices for user testing with examples of how UNCW Randall Library has performed usability testing to improve the library’s web and search experiences.
