Ghost Walk of Old Wilmington

Join us for a spooky evening on the Ghost Walk of Old Wilmington Friday, October 10.

You must purchase your ticket in advance here.

We meet at the Ghost Walk of Old Wilmington sign, riverfront at Market and Water Streets (address in location). Tours operate rain or shine, & once a tour begins it will finish (in the case of severe weather under the safety of a shelter). You must arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the tour (the official start time is 8:30 and the tour will last 90 minutes)

Parking:

Please park in front of the Women’s & Children’s Hospital. If you come up the main entrance to the hospital, take a left at the first intersection and you’ll see a building with “Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital” at the top. Any of the parking in front of that building will be fine to use (and free).

Meet:

After parking, enter the building using the doors under the large awning. We’ll meet in the lobby of the Women’s & Children’s Hospital by the piano and seating.

If you arrive late:

We’ll wait a few minutes, but if you arrive and we’re nowhere to be seen, take the stairs in the W&C lobby (or the elevator) to the second floor. Walk down the long hallway toward the neuroscience tower. You’ll pass a long row of windows (on your right) that looks out over the front entrance to the hospital, then an auditorium (on your left), and you’ll cross over an intersection with another long hallway. There will be an elevator at that intersection. Take the elevator down to the Ground floor and when you exit, take a left and the Robert M Fales Learning Commons and SEAHEC Health Sciences Library will be on your left.

The ACLA 10th Annual Bowl-A-Rama was held on Friday, April 25, and had a great turnout of 31 bowlers and several groupies to cheer us on. Team Special & School Libraries defended their title and won $83.00 in proceeds that they will be donating to the Cape Fear Literacy Council. Congratulations!

Giving them a run for their money were Team New Hanover County Public Libraries, Team Brunswick County Public Libraries, Team UNCW Library, and Team Community College Libraries. Thank you to all who turned out for this year’s event and for the last decade.

2025 Bowl-A-Rama is just around the corner!

We like to have 4-6 bowlers per team. If you have too many–no problem, we’ll just make two teams. Too few? No problem, we’ll add you to an existing team. The more, the merrier!

FAQ:
1) Can friends/family bowl on my team? YES!
2) Can I just watch? YES! (A suggested spectator donation of $5 is appreciated)
3) Can I pay my $20 with a card? NO! Bring your cash–it makes it WAY easier.
4) Can we bowl with “bumpers” to avoid gutter balls? Before we begin, we’ll take a vote. Majority wins.

Our winter ACLA meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 26, starting at 5pm, via Zoom (details appended below). Our chief business will be a discussion of and vote on proposed bylaw amendments. Please review this PDF file (you may have to download and open the file in Adobe Acrobat to see the markup, as opposed to viewing in a browser), which tracks the changes recommended by the Executive Committee, to prepare for this meeting. There will also be updates on, among other things: the Center for Southeast North Carolina Archives and History partnership; the Documenting Azalea Coast Library Work first-person history project; the IRS nonprofit status situation; and a possible Food Bank Day of Service.
