STEM Program/Planning Meeting

On Saturday, April 9th, UNCG will be hosting a program sponsored by the American Association of College Women called Triad Tech Savvy.  This is an all-day program designed to introduce middle school girls to STEM careers, and has a number of hands-on activities and speakers.  I am on the planning committee, and we are looking for volunteers who are interested in being involved for part or all of that Saturday to escort people around, help get people checked in, work with our presenters, etc.  If you would like to be involved, please respond to me at ksgrigg@uncg.edu and I will put you in touch with Mary Krautter, our volunteer coordinator.  I am including the URL for the event.

Mark your calendars- the next STEM Librarianship in North Carolina, abbreviated STEM-LINC (our new name!) meeting will take place on 4/29 at UNCG.  We are still working on the programming and the schedule, but I wanted to make sure people could mark off their calendars now.  We’ll follow up with more details as we have them. I would count on the schedule being similar, with a morning programming followed by optional lunch.  I will help escort people to the lunch sites of their choice. We have a food court right here in the adjoining building, but there are also some great restaurants on Tate Street, which is a short walk. Look for more information soon!

Virtual Webinar Series RASS

Is your library doing anything interesting with chat reference, video tutorial tools, tracking/analyzing reference statistics, or anything else you want to share with your colleagues across the state?

The Reference and Adult Services Section is holding the third annual “Current Trends in Reference” virtual webinar series, and we want you to be a part of it! The format will include a 3-week mini-series. We’re looking for 10-15 minute presentations on the latest and greatest happenings in the world of reference. We encourage submissions from presenters at different library “types” (special, public, college, etc.) to represent multiple views on current trends.

The conference series will kick off on Wednesday, April 13 at 11:00 a.m. The other dates are April 20 and April 27 at the same time. We will have a different topic each Wednesday. All accepted presenters will have the opportunity to practice with the webinar software before the presentations. Sign up at: http://goo.gl/forms/P49izw1QEN
***Proposals are due this Friday, March 11, 2016***

Networking Event

Please join the Azalea Coast Library Association (ACLA) and the NCLA New Members Round Table (NMRT) for a “Hot Chocolate Social” next Thursday, March 3rd from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Blue Surf Café at 250 Racine Drive in Wilmington.  Blue Surf has 7 flavors of hot chocolates made with Valrhona Chocolate including Nutella, Mexican and Caramel.  Yum!

But given the warm and weird weather, hot chocolate might not sound so good right now.  Rest assured that Blue Surf has a full menu of food, beers, wines and desserts if it is indeed too hot for hot chocolate. Please RSVP by replying to Lisa Coats at coatsl@uncw.edu – or just show up next Thursday to chat with like-minded library folk!
